Summary: CHF 106,394 was allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 7 March, 2012 to support the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in delivering assistance to a total of 1,888 beneficiaries, and to replenish the used contingency stocks.

Thanks to support by the DREF, PRCS was able to bring tailored and effective immediate relief to 1,888 persons. In addition, the emergency helped identifying gaps in coordination and ways to improve coordination with other actors as well as testing its contingency plans.

PRCS has proceeded to all the purchases to replenish its stocks before the extended deadline of 6 June. Since the announced second wave of heavy rains did not materialize, some items, notably tents, were distributed in smaller numbers than initially planned, which resulted in smaller purchase of tents and lesser overall expenditure at the end of the period. The unspent amount of approximately 20,000 CHF has been transferred back from PRCS to the central DREF fund.

The Federation wishes to thank the generous contributions done towards the replenishment of the DREF: ECHO has contributed 72,194 CHF, the Belgian Government 25,000 CHF and the Canadian Red Cross 9,200 CHF to the DREF in replenishment of the allocation made for this operation.

The major donors and partners of DREF include the Australian, American and Belgian governments, the Austrian Red Cross, the Canadian Red Cross and government, Danish Red Cross and government, the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO), the Irish and the Italian governments, the Japanese Red Cross Society, the Luxembourg government, the Monaco Red Cross and government, the Netherlands Red Cross and government, the Norwegian Red Cross and government, the Spanish Government, the Swedish Red Cross and government, the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), the Medtronic and Z Zurich Foundations, and other corporate and private donors.

The Belgian RC/Govt, ECHO, Canadian RC have replenished the DREF for the allocation made to this operation.
